Mobile homes are becoming increasingly popular – on the one hand this is due to a trend towards smaller housing units, while on the other hand it is thanks to their use as glamping accommodation. Whether an Adriatic holiday in Croatia or a family holiday at a holiday park with direct access to the Lido on Lake Garda: A mobile home promises maximum flexibility with a high degree of comfort. But how does it differ from the classic glamping tent?

Mobile home – what's behind it?

One of the biggest advantages of this type of glamping accommodation is already given away in its name: Mobile homes are mobile! The small-format residential units are not firmly anchored to the ground, but rather sit on a stable platform that can be moved – along with the mobile home that is attached to it.

Mobile home – a definition

Unsurprisingly, mobile homes are by definition mobile, while in terms of living area furnishings they resemble an apartment. Unlike conventional apartments, mobile homes do not have a solid foundation, but are built on a solid platform that can be moved at will.

With all the advantages in mind, legal aspects must be taken into account when purchasing mobile homes: On the one hand, a mobile home can be seen as a vehicle if it is built on a trailer. On the other hand, if it is parked at a fixed parking space for a longer period of time, it can be regarded as a building and thus may require a building permit. If you want to put a mobile home next to your own swimming pool at your primary residence, it is worth finding out more about legal requirements from the responsible authority.

What types of mobile homes are there?

Basically, there are two types of mobile homes: On the one hand, there are those that are built on a trailer and can thus attached to a towing vehicle. This version of the mobile home – also known as trailer home – is particularly flexible, but in turn is also subject to restrictions. As trailers used in road traffic are regulated in size, the dimensions of such a mobile home are limited.

In contrast, there are mobile homes that are almost reminiscent of a tiny house: They are basically mobile, but do not have a proper chassis and are therefore not suitable for road traffic. This means they are not liable to any restrictions. However, a crane truck is required to move such a mobile home, for example to change location within a camping village.

Glamping tents as holiday accommodation

Apart from chalets and holiday homes, glamping tents areone of the most popular glamping accommodations. Glamping in general refers to a holiday trend that combines authentic experiences in nature with the comforts offered by a hotel. Glamorous camping therefore calls for particularly luxurious accommodation that is surrounded by: Glamping tents are the perfect choice.

Glamping tents – a definition

Unlike conventional camping tents, glamping tents score with a higher level of comfort, so you do not have to go without the amenities of a hotel room. In addition, these luxury tents can be found in different designs, which, however, have one thing in common: Comfort at the highest level, so that you can rightly call them an outdoor hotel room.

Mobility is another difference between the glamping tents and conventional camping tents. While a trekking tent can be quickly dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere, the same task is somewhat more complicated for glamping tents. However, it is not necessary to dismantle the latter during the winter, as some glamping tents are winter-proof and can also be used in colder weather.

Different types: Glamping tent variety

Not every luxury tent is the same. If you go in search of a glamping accommodation at the destination of your dreams, you will come to this realization quite quickly. This is due to the fact that different glamping providers offer a varied range of different luxury tents: These can be safari tents, teepees or wigwams, but also classic glamping tents that are equipped with all kinds of amenities – comfortable double beds or heated outdoor pools are not uncommon.

For an increasing number of people, sustainability is a central concern, even when on holiday. They are supported by a framework of regionally sourced LVL wood and surrounded by an innovative, translucent membrane, so that the boundaries between indoors and outdoors seem to blur – true to the basic idea of glamping.

Mobile home vs. glamping tent: These are the differences

It turns out that the differences between mobile homes and glamping tents are largely due to the type of construction: Depending on whether they are built on a trailer or not, mobile homes can be more mobile than glamping tents, and at they same time they are more reminiscent of a classic apartment. Glamping tents, on the other hand, can be particularly versatile and exude camping atmosphere paired with a luxurious flair. Which type of accommodation is best suited for your nextglamping holiday remains - like so much else - a matter of taste.
